180: the cutting room thor and the vegetable pusher

I haven't been sewing, but I have been cutting.

As always, no plan. Just randomly cutting fabric into strips  and squares for when I am ready to sit down at the machine.

I feel a quilt coming on.

.....................................................................................................................

Spring! I love spring. It has been pretty much sunny for the last couple of weeks, which has helped my outlook immensely. I spent the afternoon in the garden on Saturday, for the first time this season. This is late for me!
I cleaned up a few of the beds in the vegetable garden, and most of the pathways between the beds.

Need to get some peas in the ground this weekend. Maybe I'll grab some pansies at the nursery. I pledge to document my gardening this year!

Do you garden?  Vegetables or flowers or both?

If you lived nearby,  you would be so sick of me pushing  cucumbers and green beans on you every summer.

I love the colors of the fabric you cut. It will be a lovely quilt.

I'm moving next month to my first house with a real yard and dirt to plant things in. I'm excited. So far, I've only grown herbs in small containers.

Hello! First time visiting your blog, and I love it! I really enjoy the detail at the top of your page...how beautiful. :)

If I lived near you I would gladly take your cucumbers and green beans - I could eat my weight in them! I planted my first vegetable garden this year. It's very tiny, but I have soem tomato plants, cucumbers, eggplant, bell peppers, chives, and basil. I have room for one more thing, but I need some more dirt first.

Sadly, I live in an apartment with no back porch area. I did plant some alyssum and geranium seeds in pots though this spring and they are starting to sprout. I also just planted some basil. I hope it grows. We'll see. So far the cats haven't tried to eat them like they have my little orchid sprout. I love cukes and green beans so I would gladly accept some if I lived nearby.

The fabric looks fun. I have so much sitting around and not much of a plan to do much with it.

okay - first those are way cute shoes from yesterday - I know a girlie at our house who would be coveting those if she saw them!! I love the thought of a veggie garden but sadly my follow through is not always great - every year I vow that this will be the year I can do more than tomatos and a few herbs.... jury still out for summer '08!! And that fabric today is very pretty - don't you just love the anticipation, the possibilities....of fabric? Enjoy and have fun creating.

I've been in the garden all week ... well when I haven't had to be at work earning the pennies to pay for my obscene seed/bulb habit! My second round of sweetpeas are soaking ready to join their compatriots in the greenhouse tomorrow. The nasturtiums are in, the dahlias and gladioli are due to go in any day now and the greenhouse is looking gratifyingly full of seedlings. The veg, other than the salad (which is my baby) is all down to the other half, who has already confessed to being a bit behind so I may have to get out in the veg patch this weekend and give it and him a kick up the backside!!

Cutting is the worst part for me, so I like the idea of just cutting all in one big chunk. Then you have all that fun ready to go fabric for quilting. Love that.

I do have a small garden and my peas have been planted for 2 weeks. I also did some radishes, heard they were easy. And I did some onions, I don't really eat them, I just wanted to try them this year.

Good luck with your garden and your fabric.

I'm a first-time reader, and I'm loving your blog! Will definately come back :-)
I have to see that quilt you're going to make....

Hmmm... do those fabric scraps taste sugary? Maybe there is a snap to them? wink wink

I've been a planting fool. So far I have peas, arugula, spinach, lettuce and strawberries in the ground, tomato seedlings in the greenhouse and pansies in pots. I still have a flat of pepper seedlings and tomatoes to put in... but much later.

I have to take some pics and get off my non-blogging bottom. Estate sale-ing last weekend got me some sweet treasures and now I have a burgeoning sculpture garden! Alright Alright!! I'll go photo right now. Sheesh. You people are loud.

Oooohhhh did you get the samples today? Can't wait to see them. I'm really into gardening too and we are having a "kid's garden" this year for Chloe and Lowell. We're starting the plot from scratch in the backyard and already started the seeds. Should be fun. I also want to document it. Fun stuff!

Nope - no garden! Unfortunately we live in a 1 bedroom apartment with no balcony... Maybe I'll try some herbs in the window this summer. Please post some sneak peaks of your fabric tomorrow. Pretty please?!

I DO garden! This is my first year venturing into a totally organic garden...making it part of a community garden in my area. Since it's only April (and expected to snow here on Monday), I haven't even started prepping my soil yet.

Do you garden organically? If so, any beginner's tips?
