299: speaking of random

I was feeling restless at home the other day, so I took a drive to Craigville Beach. Sat in the car and wrote in my journal a bit. Looked up and saw this:

....................................................................

The dogs are smart enough to open the back door of the house. Sometimes Thor, our black fluffernutter of a cat, makes a run for it. This time, it had been snowing:

Yeah, he was like, "Screw this!" and came right back in.  (Wuss.)

...............................................................................

 Mercury is like his mama:

He likes the heat.

.....................................................................................

Valentine's prep:

I have been going through my years of accumulated supplies, pulling out bits suitable for some lovey-dovey cards.

mmmm, glitter and confetti....doilies.....

vintage lace bits, cut up gold doilies, tickets from god-knows-where.

Fabric, cut up yummygoods bags:

more fabric and some heart-shaped doilies (not that you can't see that all for yourself, geez, why am i stating the obvious?):

mmmm, and everyone's favorite, vintage sheet music:

...................................................

bah, i am under the weather today. sore throat, spacey, achey.

....................................................

i have been thinking lately. what if i could develop a sixth sense, a sense of poetry. How might life be different if i experience it with that sense?

....................................................

itching to do some paintings. wanting to delve into hand embroidery. daydreaming of tropical vacations. thankful for new friendships I am developing. loving music and my sweetheart.

excited about a new year.

thanks for hanging out with me.

xo, m

I'm fairly new to your blog, and OMG - that Mercury could be a twin to my Radar - even the little belly pudge is right on the money! Which led me to do a search of your blog to see Thor - he's cousins to my other cat Sylvester (like the Looney Tune - so he has the white on his underside). What a cute little family of critters you have!

Hope you feel better soon - the winter blahs are no fun at all.

Oh, the valentine's day materials look divine! I can't wait to see how the cards look when you put it all together. Sorry about the blahs - I totally feel you - I was there last week. Get better soon!

Wow, what a gorgeous sunset! Your cats are so funny! I've never seen a cat lying on top of a radiator like that. My cats LOVE to lounge and roll around in the sun.

I must disagree with your self assessment... you DO possess a sense of poetry. It is visual poetry. Your works, even your simple piles of fun bits and pieces all show a love of hue and texture and a rhythm... poetry.

i was just going to say what kathleen c. said (only probably not as well). looking at the bits and pieces of your life in photos, and words, IS poetry to me.

love what you do.

Melissa, I love your cat- he is so much like my last cat! When you are feeling not the best how do you find the motivation or energy to keep sewing or creating? I know I'm not the only one to suffer periods of procrastination and so on, but it is so hard to get out of that rut. I love reading your site,
thanks, Karen

This time of year I'm always like that - dreaming of new beginnings and sweet projects. Oh, and of flipflops in every new color I can find.

I love Valentine's day! Not that I do anything special, but I'm in love with love. And I'm mad about pink, and heart shapes! ;)

I hope you show us the cards you make! Looks like you have some fun supplies! Have you noticed I'm always excited? (!!!) lol

Wow! You are sounding so positive about life! That is great...

I LOVE the picture of Mercury looking up in the sunny room!! I wish I could get a nice picture of my Kiki. She goes running when I get my camera :( Boo.

I also am loving that you have years of collected supplies to go through. I have a ton of "stuff" since you never know when you are going to need some little bit for something but other people don't understand that. It's nice to see that some people do!
