« 347: saturday night's all right for blogging | Main | 345: you = awesome! (and a wee intro to a cool project) »

346: do you want your yummy?

Hey!

I just posted about our first Craft Circle for Handmade for the Holidays. Go here if you'd like to see pics and hear what participants had to say about it! That also takes you to the rest of the info about the project that I said I would post, so go check it out! (if you get lost, click on Handmade for the Holidays in the sidebar on the right, that will let you see all the info)

........................................................................................

So I've been kinda wrapped up in the Handmade thing and its been really fun! Handmade for the Holidays was featured in an article in the Cape Cod Times about how locals are using social media (blogs, facebook, twitter) to get the word out about charity events/drives. There was kind of a huge photo of me on the front page of the business section! I'll have to photograph the actual paper so you can see. I've never been in the paper before!

Well, unless you count when I was a kid, but it wasn't a local paper ( I mean, it wasn't local to me, it must have been local to someone) and I didn't really do anything except for look cute standing next to one of those giant Snoopy stuffed animals in a toy store in Kennebunkport, Maine. I'll have to see if I can dig up that clipping and scan it for you. I believe the caption was, "Cuddling up with friends at The Portly Beagle."

...................................................................................

I promised you a giveaway and here it is!

You can't shop online yet, so how about winning some Yummy Goods?

How about a cute donut lip gloss, for example?

or perhaps a lovely zippered pouch made from recycled plastic and printed with hedgies and birds?

(print by the ridiculously awesome helen dardik)

And, oh......

how about one of these phrase bracelets that everyone loves so much?

One lucky commenter will receive all of it and  either have some sweet goodies for her/himself or a couple of gifts taken care of already.

Here on the blog (actually, this goes for the shop, too!), I strive to create a place where together we can relax and be ok with imperfection, find beauty in the midst of struggle, be honest, be playful and real. You never know what stays with people, though,  so for a chance to win the goodies above, please leave a comment and tell me something that you remember from your time spent here with me. It may shape the things I touch on in the future.

xo, m

For a chance to win, just leave me a comment telling me what you'd like to see more of  on the blog.

I don't want to make you sad again but the most touching thing for me on your blog has been reading about your brother. Seeing you wear his jeans. My sister died when she was 15. That was 37 years ago. I still think about her a lot. Cry. Miss her. Wonder how my life, my kids lives all would have been different with her in it. Keep sharing. I hope it helps. It helps me to hear it from you.

I remember when you shared about your brother's death. I have never read a blog where someone was so raw and revealing. It meant a lot to me and reminded me of what my mother always said to me when I was younger (I was kind of a smart ass/meanie), "be kind to everyone, because you never know what they are going through. Your words might me the last they hear..." That always used to scare me, but as an adult and a mother myself I know understand what she meant.

On a lighter note, I remember your first unicorn post. I loved it! It was a little random, but so much fun.

Thanks for sharing!

I love the way your entries are a delight for the eyes. Your eyes are drawn to such different things than mine--you love the closeups, the rust, chips, cracks, old things. My own tastes are nearly the opposite. I think my point is just that I love seeing the world through your eyes, I love the way you draw us in and let us peer out from your face and see what you see.

I remember many things....unicorns, your lovely overgrown backyard, your brother, the way you capture beauty in things like rust, or rocks.....and your lovely shop, which is a feast to the eyes.

I love reading your blog and just your honesty and open-ness with everything. I love that picture of your arm and the bracelets (and your ring) and remember when you told us the big news :-)
I love your pics from your walks too - always gorgeous!

I just love looking at your blog--the colors, the photos--true eye candy! And you're a great writer to boot! Funny, insightful. You do a great job without being too wordy!

I started reading your blog because of the beautiful pictures and crafts. However, what has kept me coming back is your honesty. You don't attempt to hide what you struggle with (depression, eating right, exercise, your brother's passing). So many blogs only post the good stuff and that's great for them, but we know it's not real. You're real and you put a lot of trust in your readers and that means a lot.
Also, I love your pictures of rust : )

I really liked it when you took pictures of your studio with all the fabrics and how you organized it. It seems to be a very inspiring place to be. Thanks for the giveaway. cool stuff,

After work, the kids, the housework, when everyone is in bed, I see what's happening with the craft blogs and relax. I love Yummygoods and the yummy crafting and fabrics!

I really love your posts about the treasures you find while thrifting. Your eye for color is awesome, for one, and I love your cheeky wit.

The post I remember the most is the one about the painting you did of your favorite childhood place, the 40 steps. I loved the painting & I loved the whole idea of the place. It made me think of my own childhood & what special place I would paint a picture of (if I could paint!). I just loved that.

I really love your sense of style. It's so fun and refreshing. And of course, the unicorns take the cake! Your blog also makes me realize that I must visit the Cape one day! Keep up the great work.

Without reading any of the other comments, this is what I remember so enjoying with you here: when you first had the idea to open a shop and rented a space and then took pics of how you were advancing that idea. It was really fun to see the shop take shape.

I'd LOVE to have the donut lip glosses to go with my cupcake ones. *S*

I've only recently found your blog. What I love about it: your intriguing photography, your perspective on the creative process, and your honesty (even when it's no fun).

All my best!

I remember you creating a work of art by sorting all of your lovely collectors items by color on your shelves - I just love how they looked!!
