438: Tiny Breakable Things of Cindie Wood

My dear friend Cindy (that would be Original Cindy) moved away.

I miss her.

She gave me a bunch of stuff when she was leaving: cool metal plant stands, plants to go on them, and the most amazing thing ever:

Her dollhouse.

The dollhouse her dad made for her when she was little.

Cindy has two boys and the dollhouse wasn't getting any love. She knew, she knew--- that I would love the thing to death. And all the adorable little things that live in it. Which I do.

Of course I do!

I do kind of have a problem with a  bathroom in the hall with no privacy, but, you know.

The only condition on my getting to keep the dollhouse was that I had to photograph it, as if I wasn't going to do that anyways! Cindy, here you go, love.

Some of the wallpaper was actually what was used in Cindy's room!

I love it as it is of course, but I am going to redecorate. Yes, i am. (With Cindy's blessing.)

See, I didn't have a dollhouse.

And I am all for giving myself a second chance at a happy childhood.

Oh, look!  It's Christmas in the living room!

Cindy made those tiny curtains.

Look at the box that the little things came in:

I am imagining all sorts of tiny adorableness that I can make for the redecoration: tiny crocheted rugs, tiny scratchy paintings, tiny ceramics, tiny seat cushions in my fabrics. Teeny tiny quilts, omg.

It will be a Yummy Dream House and my inner little one is all skipping around with glee about it.

Aw, tiny kittens having tiny tea.

(Thank you , Cindy, for giving me something so precious. I treasure it and you.)

xo,

melissa

mba, I just have a huge grin on my face. I love the photos. I love them, and I love/d my doll house more than anything in my life as a kid (except my cat) I spent a lot of time in that doll house, in my imaginary world...although it bugged me too that the bathroom was in the hall. Dad forgot to put in a bathroom, What else could I do? I guess I thought Dolls gotta go too.

My mom sewed the curtains for me. And my dad wrote "Tiny breakable things..." So sweet.

Love it. Miss you dear friend. Original Cindy

(PS Don't forget to take a photo of the glass cat that says "I suck at being a glass cat")

I have my daughter's doll house still with me, since she also has two sons. Maybe a grand child for her?

Anyway, I think you should make a kick-ass room screen to put around the bathroom......*L*.....Yes, I'd say it is a tad exposed.

This is wonderful! But I agree the house could use a little updating/redecorating. The kittens will have to stay of course. :)
oh -- my dad made me a dollhouse, too! (mine fell to pieces many years ago, alas). i still have all my old dollhouse furniture and i think i had the same blue plastic bathroom and blue plastic couch. and the tea set. and the kitties. i love the hi-fi in the living room. oh, i could just sit down and play with it right now! what a beautiful gift!

That is so awesome Melissa! I built my own miniature dollhouse (from a kit) when I was younger and I still have it and love it to bits! Actually I only realized that I really started quilting with that dollhouse - all of the beds have quilts on them that I made using fabric samples (and de-wadded cotton balls as the batting)!

I can't wait to see how you redecorate it! And wouldn't that yellow wallpaper make for some great fabric inspiration?! ;)

Oh, I LOVE it! I want one! Although I can't wait to see what you do with it, it would be hard for me to change it!

Wow! It's not just adorable on its own, but because it was so lovingly handmade and so meaningful to your friend, it makes it even that much more special.
I can't wait to see what you make for it!

What a fantastic dollhouse! My 3 year old son would love it!! My mom and I were out looking at dollhouses today, but they are all so expensive for the wooden ones that aren't painted pink. Have fun with it!

OMG how lucky are you?! I would've killed for a dollhouse like that growing up (I still might... hehehe). Can't wait to see what you make for it!

How fun! My mom put together several dollhouses and I now have one of them. Unfortunately, I don't have a place to display it, but I will someday. I'll be watching to see what you add to yours:)

Oh Wow! I always wanted a dollhouse when I was a kid and never got one. When I saw Pottery Barn had their biggest dollhouse on sale after Christmas (major sale plus discounts for damage as it had been their floor model) I insisted we get it for our daughter. We saved it and gave it to her for her 4th birthday. She is 5 1/2 now and plays with it every day. I am so happy that she has it! I really want to start making things to decorate it soon but haven't gotten there yet. On another related note, we went to the Smithsonian American History Museum a little over a week ago and both my daughter and I were really taken with Amy Carter's dollhouse which is on display there. Decorated with such detail and so vintage! It's awesome. If you hava a chance to go see it, you should. Major dollhouse inspiration!

I love it! I still have the dollhouse my Dad made for me when I was 3 years old. I've built and re-decorated a few dollhouses and it's so much fun. It's such an addictive hobby. Can't wait to see what you do with your house!

if you will share your design inspiration and look for your "remodel", I just might have a couple of tiny things I can send you...I had quite an outfitted dollhouse, my parents did EVERYTHING over the top. need a fireplace? grandfather clock? canopy bed? etc. etc.

Oh you are kidding! I am GUSHING! the detail...they don't make them like that any more. My grandmother has one. And I just love it. That ironing board, and the staircase? You lucky girl!

Gorgeous dollhouse. Wooden dollhouses are very expensive Cathy. My husband has been playing to built one for our princess, but it has taking him so long. Hope that he'll be able to finish it before the holidays.
