« 364: Bronte-Along! Jane Eyre | Main | 362: omg hornfield »

363: you are cordially invited....

Yeah, so.... my obsession is not really waning and it's been nearly two weeks.

I have watched Jane Eyre every day (sometimes twice!) and am on the second reading of the book. Yes, I seem to have turned my little obsession into a full time job!

It's a good thing I don't have kids because they would be starving.

I know.

I am geeking out over this.

Geeking out hard with embarassing fan-girlishness.

But I am just going with it.  I will let Mr. Rochester haunt me for as long as he wishes.

It's literature, after all!( originally published in 1847!) I have to say, it even surprises me how utterly helpless I am to resist it. But as I said, I am not protesting. I am allowing myself to be swept away.

I can't wait till next week when I can send you over to Beth's new (established but renamed and revived) blog for which I did the design elements. (goes live next week, I believe) It came out so cute that I feel like I need redo my own blog asap! Not only is there cuteness over at her new home, but the archives include Beth's own fangirl obsessed posts from when she watched the original airing of Jane Eyre in 2006!

See? It's not just me!

>sigh<

Look at the gorgeousness of this cover:

I went out looking for a hardcover copy for myself the other day, as the one above belongs to the library. I couldn't find what I was looking for, so Stuart scoured ebay and found a lovely pair of hardbound books for me: Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. They are on their way to me now!

A little more Jane-painting, though she is prettier in this than she is supposed to be:

So, if you follow me on twitter, or are a fan of Yummy Goods on facebook, then you know (even more, uh, acutely than if you just read the blog ) that I have done little lately except read/watch/obsess over Jane Eyre. And you will know that I am insisting that everyone I know watch the 2006 Masterpiece Theatre film version that I am in love with.(no other film version will do.)  And about ten people have since put it in their netflix queue or ordered it from the library! Yay!

Would you like to join us?

How about an Unofficial Bronte-Along? Or should it be a Jane Eyre-athon? -along?

Don't feel bad about not reading the book before you see the film. I hadn't read it either-the film made me want to! And I have not suffered from reading it after the film.

So, just let me know in the comments if you will join me! Maybe you will be inspired to craft or draw based on the book or the period- and you can share it on your blog? Or maybe you just want to watch and swoon, and who could blame you? Certainly, I wouldn't.

Should I make a banner or button for the Bronte-Along? Maybe I will. I've never done anything like this, so I don't really know what to do.

Ok, so since I just tweeted about it and everyone wants to know what the heck is involved in joining the Bronte-Along (tee hee!!) --- how about this to start with, since I am totally making this up as I go along:

Required: Watch the 2006 Masterpiece Theatre film version of Jane Eyre

Encouraged: Read the book by Charlotte Bronte

As if you could help it: SWOON

Hoped for and encouraged: blog, tweet facebook about it if you are into it. Basically, I just want others to swoon with :o)

Would be awesome: Craft, paint, visual journal, etc about it! I have been so inspired to paint the characters and research the dress of the times etc, that you might be similarly swept up. If so, I would love to see your work!

Anything else? Suggestions welcome! I will compile a complete list of interested parties so we can visit everyone's blogs and see what everyone is up to! And suggestions for requirements or encouragements will be added to an official post stating it all. I mean an unofficial post. Yeah.

The bottom line is that I am just so utterly in love with the story that I want others to share it with!

xo,

melissa

I'm in! Haven't read the book in ages, so I'll dust it off & start reading! The movie is in my Netflix queue...I wonder if there are enough copies to go around or if the status will change from available to wait?!? Thanks for resurrecting the "old" (reading a classic!) and mingling it with "new" (blogging & tweeting!) - what a fun idea!
I'm reading Wuthering Heights right now! Almost done, actually. I love it so much!

Ok, fine... it's in my Netflix queue...I'll have to balance it out with something not to my liking so hubby is happy also with the disc selection at our house! ;)

Me in. I read it in highschool
and loved it. Ms. B has already
given me a homework assignment
to watch the 2006 film.
Cool idea that you have.

I'm in! It's in my library queue. I am 1 of 1 hold on 10 copies so hopefully they'll fish it up for me by the weekend!

I remember first falling in love with this era. For me, since this was (ahem) a while back it was Timothy Dalton. I got a friend totally sucked in. And from there it's just a hop, skip and a jump over to Wuthering Heights. And then, well heck, sweep in Jane Austen and a little Elizabeth Gaskell. And, just have to say, if we're going to swoon over men in frock coats (as well we should), then North and South is a must. And, for all you Netflixers out there, North and South is on Watch Instantly. Which you should. (That show caused such a major swoon over Richard Armitage's performance that a fan group called the Armitage Army immediately sprung up). Though perhaps one obsession at a time is best . . . Anyway, a Bronte-Along sounds like a great deal of fun. Count me in.

oh, i'm def in. i actually wrote about jane eyre (the book) on my blog last summer (here if anyone's interested: http://is-five.blogspot.com/2009/05/jane-eyre.html) and i LOVE all film versions. i've just started watching a really old bbc version (like, 1983 or something, so not as old as i am, but old considering). it always makes me want to embroider, so i've packed away the knitting for now in favor of embroidery.

and terrie, you're SO spot on re: e. gaskell. and if anyone wants a totally swoonworthy intro, check out the film adaptation of north and south. richard armitage ... yum ...

Ok, I put in my request at the library for it. I love Jane Eyre but haven't revisited in quite some time. Can't wait to "join the fun"

I've read the book 2-3 times (an all time favorite) and have seen the movie, too (swoon). So, yes, I'm one of you, and I guess I'll join the fun and re-read, re-watch.

[Okay -- just to make you feel better, about once or twice a year my sister and I go away for a girl's weekend and do little more than just watch movies like Jane Eyre, Jane Austen, other similar movies like North and South (as in set in England not the US)].

Bronte me baby! I ordered it from Amazon, and couldn't wait (due to someone's constant tweeting) to see it. I found it on Youtube in 24 segments that were 10 minutes each. I LOVED IT!! I can't wait to see it in one piece.

lol, well if it makes you feel any better since seeing your reference to Jane Eyre I have now watched the You Tube episodes daily and bought a copy of the book which I am reading with much pleasure. So Thank You!! I have been more of an Austen girl, but I now must confess to a definite preference for Mr Rochester over Mr Darcy and Captain Wentworth!

I'm in. I have Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. They were my grandmothers copies dated 1942. Great drawings in the books. I also purchased recently The Secret Diaries of Charlotte Bronte. I have seen Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights on PBS, but am going to order them from Netflix.

I could use a little swoon in my life right about now. I'm in!

Count me in! I swooned over Villette in college but haven't revisited the Brontes since. Movie first, then I'll dig into the novel. What a perfect spring obsession!

Wuthering Heights is one of my favorites but I've never read Jane Eyre. I'm going home to visit my parents this weekend so I'll "borrow" mom's copy. She likely won't get it back...but that's besides the point. :)

I can't believe I've missed this! I'm IN! Sign me up! I'm still waiting for Masterpiece Theater version from Netflix.
