380: two short weeks

It is just starting to hit me that in two weeks---two short weeks--- I will be able to hold (and perhaps lick) a book that has a pink and orange cover and my name on it.

I will be at Quilt Market doing book signings.

Me.

Signing books.

My books.

(Will anyone really want me to sign their books? I kinda have to suspend disbelief on this one.)

I am so psyched about going my first Quilt Market in over a year and a half. That probably sounds weird to people who have to go to boring trade shows. Quilt Market is an awesome one because it's all about fabric and sewing and being crafty.

And I get to hang out with my once-or-twice-a-year friends who I wish could be my all-the-time friends. Though, thanks to the magic that is twitter, many of them actually are in my life on a daily basis!

Today I rewatched the book preview video that Beth and I made. Good lord, I love that thing.

You know that little creature at the end of it? I will be taking him with me to Quilt Market and chronicling his adventures.

Actually, we will be chronicling his adventures - me and Beth. That's right, Beth is coming to market with me! Eeeeee-----So excited! You won't be able to miss us because we will be the ones who can't stop laughing. Also, the people with the Unicorn.

Now that the release of the book is just around the corner, I get to start talking about it more, YAY! And showing pictures, like the one above! (Unicorn *Hearts* Moon, from the For Kids chapter!)

That is my good friend Katie and her adorable daughter Effie. Katie and I were friends in high school but just got back in touch a couple of years ago. I'll have to tell you that story sometime.

With all the Bronte-Along stuff going on, I've been wishing I could write fiction. But making up stories is a total mystery to me. If I tried to, it would simply be my own history with slight changes.

Why bother acting like I'm making it up? I guess written stories that are nonfiction would be considered essays, right?

And that sounds scary, like they would need to be all, you know, good and well-written and everything.  Hmm.

Maybe I will just tell you my stories. Can I tell you my stories?

xo,

melissa

PS it took me for-frigging-ever to write this because Glee was SO GOOD tonight!

we definitely want a signed copy for the library -- i'll stop in and purchase our copy and hug it to my breast with excitement. i'm thinking that it might just get me back into sewing again, which used to fill my teenage years -- i made a lot of my own clothes. god, that seems like a long time ago.

would love to hear the melissa stories. a real life lived is better than fiction any day.

PS: katie and effie are two of our favorite library visitors!

Congratulations on publishing your first book! It's on my wish list so that most likely means an upcoming birthday present for me (or a coupon for Mothers Day if I'm lucky).

We're too much alike. I've only watch the Toby Stephens' version of Jane Eyre like 5 times in the past month and now I find your a fan of Glee too?

I just bought the DVD of the first 13 episodes when it was on sale last week and will be obsessing for sure this weekend!

1. Congratulations on the book and have fun at quilt market.
2. When I read period novels I subconsciously start to talk using the same words and sentence structure.
3. I LOVE GLEE.

Yes, I want you to sign my book. Yay - book is almost ready!!!!!!
Yes, you can tell me a story.
Yes, Glee was gleeful!
I just stumbled across your page and have been looking all over it for quite some time now... I absolutely love your creativity and style, I can't believe I haven't ran by this before! To design my own fabric became a dream of mine a couple years ago when I started sewing, crafting, etc. But to write a book has been a dream of mine forever! Can't believe you get to do a book signing at the Quilt Market, some day when I get myself in that show I am going to find you and have you sign me book, whether its next year or in 20 years, ha ha ha! Sorry this is so long, I am seriously smiling at my computer in excitement for you!!!

That is great news Melissa I'm very excited for you. I love the stories you share with us but I do encourage you to write your stories down or maybe even take a writters workshop or class sometime. You are one step ahead- you have a published book! ha!

If you really want to try to focus your energy on writting. I would reccomend Julia Cameron's the artists way. You may already have it or know about it. I'm still trying to write 3 pages a day- I've been getting up at 4:30am- that kind of sucks. But I have been doing it for a few weeks and it's getting easier. If you or anyone else are interested in it let me know. There are tons of excercises and lessons for creative people.

Your focus, energy and talent has brought you to a wonderful place and I'm so happy for you!
