450: I'm totally getting married!

So, remember that time when my true love proposed to me, like two and a half years ago?

Well, turns out it wasn't just for show.

We are getting hitched in two weeks!

Back in January, we decided we wanted this to be the year. Winter passed and spring was full of preparing the shop for the season. The year was half over and we were like, yeah, guess we oughtta pick a date? Or something? Is that what people do?

Eventually we settled on Sunday, October 9.

(Fantasy Shoe Shopping: Wouldn't these be just darling as my 'something blue'? Yeah, too bad they cost more than twice what I spent on my dress. link)

I've never been a dreaming-of-my-wedding-day kind of girl, clearly. I guess I never really thought about getting married at all. I mean, I am a long-term relationship kind of girl, and could see being with someone for the rest of my life, but I've never been one for big events and awkward family moments. I kind of hate that shit.

We are having a tiny wedding. No, seriously, teeny tiny. When other people say that, they are like, 'Yeah, we had a small wedding. Only had 75 guests' and I'm like, 'Are you kidding me? Beacause that  sounds like a lot of frigging people to me!"

(These could be my 'something new', right? Link Except that they cost two and a half times what I spent on my dress. Which was twice what I have ever paid for a dress. Which is really treally cheap for a wedding dress. Actually, it's a bridesamid dress. That I got for half off.  )

So, when I say tiny, I mean ti-ny. We could easily have just gone away somewhere and gotten married by a JP in our jeans. (I mean, we would be in our jeans, the JP wouldn't be in our jeans. I'm pretty freaky, so I can see how you'd be confused, but no. The JP would wear whatever they wanted, that they owned.)

But, we felt it was important for the kids to be there with us, so we having a little ceremony so we can share it with Stuart's three kids: Meredith, Camille and Zach. Beyond the five of us, there are just five more people coming ---  including the photographer and the officiant!

(It's too bad I haven't already had these for years, because then they could be my 'something old.' But they cost two and a half times what I spent on my dress. But, they are handmade in Massachusetts!)

Where are we having this little shindig? Why, on the hobo porch, of course! (But if you hang out with me on the facebook, then this is all old news to you!)

(If you bought these in my size, I could borrow them for my 'something borrowed.' And then you could give them to me, because you're nice like that.I mean, it's not like they cost two and a half times what I spent on my dress or anything.)

More details soon!

xo,

melissa

I did NOT need to know about those shoes.
Congrats on setting the date. I hope you have a beautiful day!

I know I told you this on FB but I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!
And those shoes, oh my. I had to remind myself to breath. The blue pair is gorgeous! And the white and yellow pair, be still my heart.
And I think, really, that you should splurge on the shoes that you want! I mean, you saved on the dress, and you are having a tiny wedding, so splurge on something!!!! You deserve it! And it isn't like these are white satin pumps that you sew lace onto and bead them the night before your wedding so your fingers are covered with blood blisters so you feel weird about showing off your wedding ring at the reception......yeah, that was me. So buy the shoes you love and enjoy your perfect wedding in beautiful happy feet!

Ok, did I manage to help you justify them? That was my goal! Happy Wedding!

Hooray!

Hey, I was never one of those girls who dreamed about their wedding either (outside of maybe putting on a dress up veil once at age 6) in fact, as I grew older the idea of walking down an aisle, slowly, wearing an extremely expensive dress with everyone's eyes glued on me started to fill me with dread!

So we eloped and you'll find that there's a pretty sizable secret club of people who also eloped, or had a micro wedding like yours and many of them have been happily married for many many years.

I just found your blog. Congrats on getting married! Love those blue shoes. Definitely too much for shoes though. I had a smallish wedding, both times I was married in fact. It is WAY better than planning a big gig.

Congratulations, Melissa! I hope you guys have a great time. I raise a toast to you both! And to teeny tiny no awkwardness weddings, and to long, happy marriages.

Congratulations! I thought my wedding was small at 17 people (including the two of us and the pastor and his wife). I was never one for big awkward family moments either. I loved having a small wedding in my mom's flower garden with just family.

Congrats. My sentiments exactly on the wedding. Why blow all that money on a party that everyone forgets except you? I'd rather spend the money on an offensively large diamond ring. Or at least those blue shoes. A wedding dress you wear once, but think all of the wonderful moments you'll have in those Che Mihara blue suede mary janes...

I think everyone agrees - you should totally splurge on the blue shoes. And a wedding in Massachusetts in October? Le Sigh. It was 104 here in Texas today. Congrats!

Yay! I've been wondering when this would happen because I remember a) the proposal and b) the reluctance. But so happy for you and your honey. I officiated my brother's very small wedding a little over two years ago. Just immediate family, the photographer and her assistant - 11 in all. I'm sure it will be beautiful because you do things beautifully.

I think you should totally get the blue shoes. Because they are awesome, more than you can spend, and will always remind you of your special day. You can wear them with rolled up jeans and a cardi!! Congratulations to you and Stuart, take the time to enjoy these next few weeks of special-ness. It's all Hillbilly Handfishing after this.

Hooray! I'll cast another vote for splurging on the right shoes. You ought to have a perfectly fabulous pair. And you'll wear them loads. Delighted for you and Stuart!! Happy wedding week!

You and your big wedding. I got hitched on the beach with my pastor and his wife, my parents, my two brothers and his two parents. The limo driver ran the video camera. But we had planned for and held a 100+ person bash back home in Chicago after the honeymoon, so I'm not sure if that counts as a micro wedding. Congrats to you!

My best wishes to you! :) I so LOVE to browse wedding photos and I hope I'd be browsing yours very soon. And oh, the blue shoes are very pretty!
Congratulations!!! I love the blue shoes. We had a teeny tiny wedding, too. I mean teeny tiny - 12. Then we had two big parties, in our jeans, with our friends. That what love is - sharing it with friends.

Congratulations, Melissa! You look simply wonderful and your day was small but perfectly formed in every way: which is exactly how it should be. October is a wonderful time of year to marry - I did too, on the 8th. How fun! :D
